Keynote Presentations

I provide thought-provoking presentations to add value to your conference, seminar or other special event.

By way of preparation, I discuss your requirements and undertake extensive background research to ensure that my key messages and methods of presentation are exactly right for your circumstances and your audience.

To discuss your particular requirements, please call me on +61 8 8407 3532 or +61 (0)417 846 108.

Keynote Speech: Winning in a World Without Precedent

This presentation introduces participants to the phenomenon of "getting stuck in precedent"; the human tendency to default to familiar solutions. I outline some of the cognitive and social factors that cause people to default to precedent, supporting the main points with research and anecdotes to illustrate. I then offer some broad strategies that can be used to disrupt these patterns of thinking and behaviour, to get people unstuck from the past and freeing them to create a new future.

Specific messages and examples are adapted to your particular requirements.

Panel discussion

A live panel discussion can produce some fascinating and valuable insights for the audience. I can facilitate a lively discussion on stage. It is best if I am able to speak with the participants well beforehand, to brief them as to what is going to happen and to ensure that they and I are well prepared for the session.

Testimonials

“Shelley was approachable and pragmatic in meeting the brief. As a speaker, calm, engaging and brought a sense of style that captivated the audience. It was a pleasure to work with Shelley.” - Rowena Huddleston, Project Manager and conference organizer, SA Water

"Shelley gave a remarkable presentation linking leadership, creativity and outcomes. Her approach proved unique and motivational and I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to work with Shelley" - Simon Williams, SA State Manager, Australian Institute of Commercialisation

“In midst of many presentations about predictable topics, Shelley gave an excellent and engaging talk about a critical topic that is very difficult to talk about effectively: how organizations can create an environment that nurtures innovation and encourages the free flow of ideas and debate. Much of the talk about this topic is vague and mushy, but Shelley had concrete, practical recommendations (as her writing on this topic would have led me to predict). If more organizations paid attention to these ideas, they would be better and more successful places.” - Steve Armstrong, Principal, Armstrong Talent Development

"The event was excellent. There was definitely something for everyone to "take home" particularly in regards to striving for more innovative thought processes in our day-to-day operations to gain a competitive edge. Overall it was a very entertaining presentation." - - Lara Birchby, Meetings and Events Australia

“At the IBA Annual Conference in Madrid, Spain, in October 2009, I had the privilege of attending a session on the mentoring and professional development of law firm associates, which was co-sponsored by the IBA Law Firm Management Committee, of which I am the current Chair. I greatly enjoyed Shelley Dunstone's remarks. They were a fast-paced, timely, and entertaining approach to a serious management issue. She is a wonderful speaker, whom I recommend highly to business and professional groups.” - Norman Clark, Principal, Walker Clark, LLC, Fort Myers, Florida

"I had the pleasure of being a co-speaker with Shelley at a session on "Developing the Skills of Young Lawyers: the roles of the mentor and of the law firm" at the 2009 Annual Conference of the International Bar Association in Madrid. Shelley's presentation was thoughtful and thought provoking, with crisp and clear slides. It was delivered confidently and in a very friendly and engaging way, holding the attention of the audience throughout and giving every indication that she is a natural and talented public speaker who is focused and enthusiastic about the material she presents." - David Godfrey, Consultant, Hill Dickinson Lawyers, London

“Collaborating with Shelley was one of the highlights for me of the International Bar Association Conference in Buenos Aires. In our session, Shelley's lively presentation was filled with valuable content delivered in a succinct and compelling way. The audience responded enthusiastically to her message and her style; they were fully engaged. Shelley followed up after the conference by further demonstrating her creativity. We had asked participants to brainstorm ideas related to our program topic and submit them to us at the end of the session. Shelley collected these ideas into an e-book which she then distributed to the group. Talk about added value! I hope to work with Shelley again in the future and would wholeheartedly recommend her to others.” - Ida Abbott, President, Ida Abbott Consulting

"A wonderful example of how to get a point across "differently". Awesome!" - Rosemary Campbell, Merit Partners, Darwin

"An out-of-the-box way to get her message across - it went from the familiar to the extraordinary. What a high!" - Diane Kearney, East Arnhem Shire, NT.

"Shelley presented a workshop for our organisation development unit. She worked with them to specifically develop a workshop on innovation for a group of health managers at Flinders Medical Centre. The workshop cut to the core of what innovation is, what its value proposition is in an acute health care delivery context ( emergency departments and Operating Theatres specifically) and the key behaviours and actions to engage in to realise this value proposition. I've generally admired Shelley's approach. What moved me to a commendation action this time was that she didn't see her role as stopping after delivering the workshop and receiving positive feedback. She went further by ensuring we all went through the necessary self diagnosis instruments, followed up on our organisation development lead and course participants to ensure we took the innitial necessary actions to position us for the realisation of the outcomes we sought in the first place. In effect, she became our short term innovation theme manager! Given the above, I have no reservations recommending her at all.” -Richard Busulwa, SA Health

"Shelley is clearly a practiced public speaker and brings a wealth of expertise in matters of professional development. She also takes her work very seriously. She prepared extremely well for this seminar. Of her own volition she contacted the other members of the panel to ensure that the presentations complimented one another. This considerably reduced the work of those organizing the event. She also provided further resources for all who attended. Her manner was both confident and professional. I would have no hesitation in recommending her as a seminar leader or for other instruction on matters of professional development.” - Susan Bartie, Lecturer, Adelaide University Law School.

"Shelley's presentation was informative, well researched, authoritative and practical, and represented a vital contribution to our firm's professional development program. It was just what we needed to get us working towards a better understanding of what we need to do and preparing us for the changes ahead." - Trevor Stanbury, General Manager, Andersons Solicitors.

“Shelley presented professionally and spoke in a warm, friendly and humorous manner, suitable for the occasion. I particularly appreciated the time Shelley took to ensure that the service she was to provide fitted with the brief, and the manner in which she delivered her message, making it meaningful through the use of personal examples.” - Dami Sheldon, Senior Lawyer, ASIC.

“Shelley gave an informative, exciting and inspirational session for the leaders of our organisation. The session was very well-organised, presented in an interesting and engaging manner and left a real impact on our attendees.” - Antonietta Girolamo, City of Adelaide.

“Shelley connected well with the audience and communicated her key ideas very effectively. She has a very pleasant and natural style and kept her audience involved by asking questions and seeking feedback throughout her presentation. Her presentation got the day off to a strong and positive start, and put the audience in the right frame of mind for the sessions which followed.” - Paul Carberry, CEO, Aged Care Association Australia – SA.
